Study Connects Cola Dye Ingredient to Cancer
March 8, 2012 at 6:00AM by Zoe Bain | Comment
Could an ingredient found in the dye that provides cola with its traditional brown shade cause cancer? A controversial report released by the Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI) says yes.
According to CBS News, the consumer interest group, CSPI, published a report, which linked Coca-Cola, Diet Coke, Pepsi, and Diet Pepsi, as well as some other brown-hued sodas to a cancer-causing chemical. The chemical, 4-methylimidazole, more commonly referred to as 4-MI or 4-MEI, has been proven to cause cancer in lab rats and mice. The CSPI has petitioned the FDA to enforce a labeling system that would require sodas that contain the dye ingredient to include a warning informing consumers about cancer risks.

Despite the CSPI's alarming report, many experts denounced the findings. The FDA and the American Beverage Association were quick to defend the safety of cola products containing the chemical 4-MI. An FDA spokesperson wrote in a statement that the CSPI's petition is being reviewed but that, "a consumer would have to consume well over a thousand cans of soda a day to reach the doses administered in the studies that have shown links to cancer in rodents."
In a similar statement, the American Beverage Association wrote, "This is nothing more than CSPI scare tactics, and their claims are outrageous."
Studies linking 4-MI to cancer in mice promoted California to add it to the state list of carcinogens in 2011. It's now illegal to sell foods and beverages in California that could increase cancer risks by more than 1 case per 100,000 people without a warning label. The CSPI report has the soda levels of 4-MI weighing in at an increased risk of 4.8 cases per 100,000 people.
In related news, National Public Radio's food blog, The Salt, reported that the Coca-Cola Company has decided to modify their caramel-colored soda dye. The decision was based on the addition of the compound 4-MI or 4-MEI to the list of known carcinogens by the state of California in 2011.

In order to avoid the new labeling law, Coca-Cola asked its caramel suppliers to change the manufacturing process to a low 4-MI formulation, which will meet the California requirements. However, Coca-Cola spokeswoman Dian Garza Ciarlante stated, the original caramel dye "has always been safe." She also noted that California is the only state regulating the consumption of the 4-MI chemical. Despite claims of the chemical's safety, Coke will ultimately begin using the new lower 4-MI caramel dye on a national level. Garza Ciarlante additionally emphasized that the adjustments to the caramel coloring will not alter Coca-Cola products.
What do you think: Should cola drinks containing 4-MI have a cancer warning label?

lint
cotton is the best lint. the three biggest comsumers of cotton are the household dryer, the moth, and the belly button. now, chesthair, to many peoples dismay, was invented by mother nature to devour t-shirts. if you notice, most chesthair patterns tend to all direct their growth toward the navel. this is how the belly button eats. it reminds me of the desert scene in return of the jedi when the sand monster thing grabs onto lando calrission (billy dee williams, colt 45, it works every time) and tries to eat him but does not sucseed.
belly button lint is a great way to tipp. leave the normal 18 to 20% and your stored lint from the shirt of the day. you're showing your appreciation to the employee by giving them a piece of the shirt off your back.
beware of over drying your shirts. your dryer might like your shirt more than your chesthair. use moth balls.

sniff the hoof!!!

it wasn't your average trip to the portal. it's usually a solo or a plus one kinda mission, and with the mindset of indiana jones. this was a mission to capture a image. or numerous images. our team consisted of a heavy metal italian with a hip hop edge and a liking for getting a deep lobster tan, a street kid soon to be daada who peers through lenses and examines light, a 19 year old mini man truck life liver who wants to know the best way to get rid of hicups in a drunkin state, a balding debaser on the border of implosion due to the absurdity of life, a hair compressing(c300) stylist, a masking exteamster, a partying lover of tassels in the color of coral, a scorpio hand holder that thinks in numbers, a lover of flashdance and firefighters, and a model.
the lens holder had a vision.
so did the coral lover.
there was a medium...it was met, with a lil' OT and a lil' less light.
there was black kettles (i didn't paint'm black), arrows, bows, knifes,a beau or bo horse (depending how you look at it), whiskey the blu healer, artifacts under the feet which many or all had no idea were under us, landscapes, colors, and shades you'd see only in dreams. and of coarse, marty robbins mustache made an appearance via el paso through a banquet beer.
but in the end, after the objective was accomplished...there was the hoof. and at some point it had to be smelt. thank you britt. and now to the photoshopping.

My dear friend George Inglizian

he has moved on. soul. it's out and about. kinda nice to feel him around in my daily actions. in music, in the water, over the ocean, through the desert, i'm feeling him flying around, like when the wind blows snowflakes around and you can see what the wind is doing. that's how i see him. flying around everything that is good. that is him. that is my friend. that is George.
this is my good friend Scotts (George's son-in-laws) eulogy to the man.
The Secret to Life
Hi, I’m Scott – George’s son in law.
George was a renaissance man. He knew a lot, about a lot of stuff. He even claimed to know the secret to life.
Before I let you know what it is, I have to tell you about my relationship with George. I loved him. He meant the world to me. He was a father and a best friend. He made me apart of his family. He gave me the hand to his daughter.
Together we traveled, to Mexico to the Sierras, we wandered. We hiked, looked at plants and marveled at the natural world. We built houses. We gardened. Partied. We shot guns. We talked about women, being married and raising kids. He was apart of the birth of my children. We surfed 8 foot waves, well sort of. We played like little boys.
George lived life. He walked to his own beat. He inspired me. He told me, The Secret to Life, was to have fun. We had a lot of fun together.
On my last conversation with George, the day before he passed away, he told me to take care of myself and my family. I will.

Arnold.

so i was listening to the stone roses, reading all these funny as comments about "arnold" and his "maid"/"mistress" and laughing my ass off on a thursday.
i stumbled across this comment by a : mr. ward.
now i haven't heard the term "pump...you up" in so long, but when i read that line, i almost had to grab toilet paper. without further ado...the quote.
Arnold is no handsome man, but he was definitely appealing to Maria, otherwise there would never have been a marriage. This buffalo he knocked up, is disgusting to say the least, but she kn ew a good thing when it came up. four bedroom house, swimming pool, and I am sure a nice amount of child support from the man. This goes to show you that Arnold means what he says ,
"Im hear to pump you up". I wonder if anyone else will come forward that has been pumped up?
if you're are to young to understand "pump...you up" youtube SNL pump you up. way funny.
if you don't want a kid, don't top it off. cheers. ja.

I've been cheating
I've been waiting for you to buy me new shoes
I'm pretending like that's ok, and that's all I can do
The love I'm sending
Ain't making it through to your checking account
You've been hiding your money, never letting it show
Always trying to keep your credit card under control
You got it down and you're well
On the way to the top
But there's something that you forgot
